Montessori for ToddlersThe Montessori School offers a toddler class in the form of mixed age community classrooms for children ages eighteen months through two years, nine months. Children are encouraged to attend before starting a three-year cycle. Toddlers will explore developmentally appropriate works at their own pace with Montessori multi-age classrooms to allow children to collaborate with a diverse group of peers. This Program is more than a daycare option - our staff are experienced, highly-trained, and Montessori licenced educators that create a community that is loving, safe, nurturing, supportive and full of learning opportunities for our youngest children.
Toddlers are eager to learn from new people and experiences. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that the most important time for learning is the period between birth and six years of age. This is when children absorb everything the environment has to offer. During this time, your child’s brain is developing more rapidly than at any other time; the most learning takes place at this age than at any other stage of development. It’s known that many parents don’t seek out a formal education program until their children have passed this crucial stage of their formative years. The Toddler Program is specifically designed for this formative period to construct their foundation for self-esteem and all future development. |

This is the time for children to explore and discover through active play, since children learn best by doing. The routines of everyday living are the foundation of Montessori Toddler programs. Activities promote independence, order, coordination, and concentration, as well as support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. In addition, our educators give toddlers responsive, individualized attention to help build many skills:
Toilet Training in the Toddler ProgramOur faculty provide an expert toilet training experience when the student shows signs of readiness and the family is ready to partner in this life-changing development. Being fully toilet trained is a requirement for our Primary Programs, which is one of the reasons we work so hard on this skill, as well as growing their independence and facilitating developmentally appropriate communication. Toddlers who are ready to transition into the Primary Programs exhibit successful toilet training for two full months without having any accidents. Specifically, they are able to:
Transferring to the Primary ProgramWhen Toddlers are ready to transition to the Primary classrooms, they prove they are able to:
In preparation for preschool, they will learn the necessary social, verbal, and motor skills to communicate with this older age group. These language skills will prove especially important because, at the next level, they will be more formally introduced to the symbolic elements of language (like handwriting and basic literacy skills). |
