Coming Soon sign at kalamazoo campus expansion | The Montessori SchoolRenovations Begin at The Montessori School’s New Building

Interior demolition on The Montessori School’s newly acquired building at its Kalamazoo campus started today.

Purchased last summer, the newly acquired building is located at 710 Howard Street and separated from the school’s existing building by a strip of land and a small pond which the partners of Crosstown Parkway Apartments intend to donate to the school pending their lender’s approval.

Interior demolition will make way for new floorplans and learning spaces. External renovations will begin this spring and include landscaping, signage, and pathways connecting the two buildings.

“Work inside the new building brings us one step closer to opening our new space,” said Ann Pilzner, Head of School for The Montessori School. “The students and staff are excited to watch the space transform. We are eager to move in over the summer.”

The newly purchased building is expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.

High enrollment rates and the addition of a sixth-year program last fall have necessitated the need for more space at The Montessori School’s Kalamazoo campus. A capital campaign is underway to support the expansion and renovations.

The expanded campus will allow for 20 additional preschool openings in the school’s original building for the 2019-2020 school year and an additional 10 preschool openings for the 2020-2021 school year. Waiting lists for both school years are forming now.

In addition to the preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and childcare programs offered at its Kalamazoo campus, The Montessori School also offers preschool, kindergarten, and childcare programs at its Richland campus.
