Welcome to The Montessori School
The Montessori School offers classes for preschoolers, kindergartners and elementary students grades 1 through 5 at the Kalamazoo campus. The Richland campus has programs for preschoolers and kindergartners. We offer summer programs for our enrolled students at both locations.

Primary – 5 days a week 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Children aged 2.9 to 4 or children who no longer need a nap

Extended Day – 5 days a week 9:00 am to 3:00pm
Children at least 4 who no longer nap through 5 years of age

3 Day – A transition option for children aged 2.9 to 3.3 for the first few months of school. They attend Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. It is our experience that the children connect socially and generally adapt to the environment much more completely and readily when they attend 5 days a week.

Elementary – 5 days a week 8:15 am to 3:00 pm ages 6 to 11

Our classes are multi-aged, in keeping with the Montessori practice. The mixed age groups provide for peer teaching, role models and leadership experience; they also enhance the sense of community within the classroom.

Curriculum Overview
Our experienced faculty engages the children in specially prepared classrooms using a stimulating Primary and Elementary curriculum including:

  • The Montessori classroom is thoughtfully designed to meet the developmental needs and interests of the children at each distinct level of maturation. There is no ceiling to what children can learn, and they are able to advance through the curriculum as they are ready, without being limited by the progress of their peers.

Our teachers take great care in preparing the environment so that materials are arranged sequentially, children have comfortable work space and there is freedom of physical movement. The classroom is an important part of the children’s learning experience. It is beautiful, calm and inviting.
