Mission
The Montessori School is a non-profit education corporation dedicated to assisting families with the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of their children in accordance with the principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori School’s campus in Kalamazoo serves preschool, kindergarten and elementary students. The Richland campus offers preschool and kindergarten curriculum. We offer summer programs for our enrolled students at both locations.

Our Philosophy: Children Teach Themselves
Dr. Maria Montessori was the first female physician in Italy in 1896. Her medical practice and clinical observations led her to analyze how children learn and how they "construct themselves" from what they find in their immediate environment. The materials she developed are based on what she observed children doing "naturally".

Montessori's profound contribution to education was the creation of an environment, materials and teacher training system which responds to a simple truth - children teach themselves.
"Our intervention in this marvelous process is indirect; we are here to offer this life, which came into the world by itself, the means necessary for its development, and having done that we must await this development with respect."
